It was first isolated from rabbits in 1977 and named for its ability to induce delta wave sleep. Research suggests DSIP plays a role in sleep regulation, stress response, and various physiological processes. While present endogenously, synthetic forms of DSIP have been investigated for potential therapeutic applications, particularly in areas related to sleep disturbances and mood regulation.
