Overview

Dabigatran, marketed under the brand name Pradaxa, is an anticoagulant medication. It belongs to a class of drugs known as direct thrombin inhibitors. Its primary function is to prevent the formation of blood clots, which can lead to serious conditions such as stroke, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE). It is typically prescribed to individuals with non-valvular atrial fibrillation to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism, for the treatment of DVT and PE, and for the prevention of recurrent DVT and PE after initial therapy.
