Nandrolone Decanoate

Nandrolone decanoate is a synthetic anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) derived from testosterone. It is known by its common brand name, Deca-Durabolin. As an AAS, it shares structural similarities with testosterone but has a modified chemical structure that gives it a higher anabolic (tissue-building) to androgenic (masculinizing) ratio compared to testosterone. This characteristic is often cited as a reason for its therapeutic use where anabolic effects are desired with fewer androgenic side effects. Historically, nandrolone decanoate has been used in various medical contexts, including in the treatment of anemia associated with renal insufficiency, osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, and catabolic states such following severe burns or extensive surgery. Its ability to promote lean body mass and bone density has been of particular interest in these therapeutic applications. However, its use has become more restricted due to changing medical guidelines and the availability of alternative treatments (DrugBank, FDA label). Pharmacologically, nandrolone decanoate is an ester of nandrolone. The decanoate ester prolongs the release of nandrolone from the injection site, resulting in a sustained therapeutic effect over an extended period.
