Anastrozole, sold under the brand name Arimidex among others, is a medication classified as an aromatase inhibitor. It is primarily used in the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. By inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, anastrozole reduces the production of estrogen in the body, which can slow or stop the growth of certain types of breast cancer that are hormone-receptor positive. This medication is taken orally and is available by prescription only. (Mayo Clinic, DrugBank)
