Epithalon (also known as Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derived from a polypeptide extract of the pineal gland. It was developed in Russia by Professor Vladimir Khavinson and his team. Epithalon is not approved for medical use in most Western countries and is typically considered an experimental compound. It is primarily researched for its potential roles in anti-aging, longevity, and regulation of circadian rhythms. Due to its peptide nature, it is often administered via injection, but formulations for sublingual or intranasal use have also been explored.
Epithalon's proposed actions are generally attributed to its interaction with the pineal gland, a small endocrine gland in the brain that produces melatonin, a hormone involved in sleep-wake cycles and antioxidant protection.
