Klotho Peptide

Klotho is a protein primarily expressed in the kidneys, parathyroid glands, and brain choroid plexus, and exists in two forms: a transmembrane protein (mKlotho) and a secreted protein (sKlotho). The secreted form, sKlotho, circulates in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid, acting as a hormone-like substance. Its levels tend to decline with age, and reduced Klotho expression has been associated with aging-related diseases such as chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. Klotho peptide, or sKlotho, is considered a potential therapeutic target due to its broad protective effects. It plays crucial roles in regulating phosphate and calcium homeostasis, modulating insulin/IGF-1 signaling, and influencing oxidative stress responses and inflammation. Research indicates that increasing Klotho levels may offer anti-aging benefits and protection against various age-related pathologies. While Klotho is naturally produced in the body, exogenous Klotho peptides are being investigated for their potential to supplement declining endogenous levels. These peptides are often administered via injection in research settings to explore their therapeutic effects.
